When Wumer Met Wukong: A Digital Silk Road Encounter at the Wuzhen Summit
2025-11-10
The 2025 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit, themed “Building an Open, Cooperative, and Secure Digital-Intelligent Future – Joining Hands to Forge a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace”, will be held from November 7 to 9.
At a sub-venue in the fashion town of Puyuan to the side of the summit, Pakistani young man Wumer experienced a truly dimension-breaking adventure:
This “China expert” who has lived in China for eight years originally came to soak in the charm of the Jiangnan water town, but was drawn by an inexplicable flurry of flying paper. In the next moment, he found himself time-traveling—face to face with Sun Wukong wielding his golden staff!
Amid swirling pages, the merging of an oriental townscape with Western internet symbols created a striking scene. Wumer’s wide-eyed astonishment and Sun Wukong’s playful interaction generated a dramatic tension.
This surreal experience not only illustrates the vibrant “internet-born culture” of Jiaxing, but also shows global youth netizens that when the dialogue of civilization along the Silk Road is encoded into digital language, tradition and modernity, East and West, will ultimately stand in harmony in the vast expanse of the internet.
